Jacqueline, thanks for your comments. It seems like every parent who has helped a child move to school or an apartment has had the "IKEA Experience". They could just line up all of their shelves, cabinets, etc. But they really do help you visualize what you can do with a room.

Of course the tradeoff is that you can be there for hours ... and it's hard to pass the Swedish meatballs.

Experienced IKEA for the first time this past weekend while helping my daughter equip her first apartment. While a bit overwhelming (we were there for hours!), everything you describe fit our experience accurately. Definitely, a differentiating business model!
